Falls to nonprofit who ultimately won championship
Thanks to a bevy of generous supporters, St. Louis College Prep had its best showing ever this year in the Brackets For Good competition, a friendly March Madness inspired competition between St. Louis area nonprofits.
In total, St. Louis College Prep raised over $4,000 in the competition, making it to Round 4 (the Engaged 8) and more than doubling the amount raised during the competition last year.
Thanks for this success is due to our generous supporters including Linda Aschen, Mark Aschen, Jayne Aschen, Patrick Banks, Santiago, Beltran, Lawrence Berger, Ryan Blackburn, Julie Boulch, Trecia Davis, Pamela Dixon, Lauren Fleischer, Sina Hilbert, Denise Hutchinson, Javad Khazaeli, Kate Leenerts, Clarence Lewis, Christine Novalis, Erin Ryan, Christine Schmiz, Stephen Singer, Joel Steele, Adam Thomas, and Paul Vivian. Thank you for making this year's tournament such a great success.
Ultimately, however, St. Louis College Prep fell to a stronger team, Camp Jump Start, which was able to raise a total of $84,328 in the final two rounds of the tournament and took the championship title.
Funds raised through the Brackets for Good competition will go to our Athletics and Activities Department. Our athletics program is a key part of working to develop our scholars in the values of character, teamwork, grit, goal-setting and achievement through interscholastic competition.
But our scholar-athletes, many of whom come from some of the most disadvantaged areas of the city, can not compete effectively if they cannot make it to the game or meet. We are working to raise funds to revamp our athletic department transportation system to ensure our scholar athletes can just focus on doing their best on the court or field.
