Volunteers from Ascension, the largest non-profit health system in the U.S. and the world’s largest Catholic health system, were on St. Louis College Prep’s campus on Monday with one mission – to make sure the school’s science lab was fully functional for scholars this year.
“We knew you had a lot of lab materials and a great lab space,” said Maria Witt, one of seven Ascension volunteers helping at the school this week. Witt, a former South City Prep employee said she knew the great space was unusable because it was not correctly organized. “We wanted to make sure you were able to use the lab space.”
In total, seven volunteers spent most of Monday morning completely reorganizing and cleaning the lab.
“We have pulled everything off the shelves and have started putting it back together,’ said Witt. “We are organizing it based on if it is used for chemistry, biology, geology or whatever. It definitely was not a usable as a classroom when we started.”
